About Us

On behalf of the ASMIRT 2022 Conference Organising Committee, it is with great pleasure that we extend an invitation to all members of the medical radiation sciences professional community to join us in Cairns for the ASMIRT 2022 Conference. The conference is ideally timed from 19 to 22 May, one of the best times of year to visit, with ideal weather for a tropical getaway.

The theme of the 2022 Conference is ‘Unite – The Land, The Sea, The People’. Within this theme, we aim to bring together the unique aspects of the Far North Queensland region to rejoice who we are as Australian people, united in a city where the rainforest meets the reef.

ASMIRT 2022 will provide the opportunity to take learning and enjoyment beyond the conference venue, into nature. Immerse yourself in local flavours and culture through local tours, day trips, focused cultural and professional workshops and invited speakers. Learn the latest technology innovations and learn about delivering medical radiation sciences in rural and remote Australia. Enjoy getting together face-to-face with friends and colleagues during our planned social functions, including at the multi award-winning Hemingway’s Brewery, located right on the Cairns Marina and just a few minutes’ walk from the conference venue and hotels.

As frontline healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been there for our people during their time of need. We have united against this unknown disease to fight for best patient outcomes. The ASMIRT 2022 Conference provides an opportunity to present on the never-before-seen challenges faced in our industry, the collaboration between medical radiation science professionals and discover the emerging technologies that have occurred during this time. Let’s come together to celebrate our achievements and unite as one. Believe us, there is no better place to come together to learn, celebrate and reconnect with nature and each other than in Cairns.

We encourage you to submit an abstract (closing 18 October) and add the conference dates (May 19-22, 2022) to your calendar, and we look forward to welcoming you in Cairns for ASMIRT 2022.

Theme

The theme of the 2022 Conference is Unite – The Land, The Sea, The People. Within this theme, we aim to bring together the unique aspects of the Far North Queensland region to rejoice who we are as Australian people, united in a city where the rainforest meets the reef. We look forward to uniting with medical radiation professionals from all over Australia, and hopefully further afield, to engage in face-to-face networking and knowledge sharing.

As with previous years, this conference will include topics specific to Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy, as well as a renewed focus on Sonography and Nuclear Medicine and additional emphasis on rural and remote healthcare and service delivery.

We are seeking abstracts on all MRS topics for oral presentations, poster exhibits and workshops including but not limited to:

• General/Modality specific Radiography
• Sonography
• Nuclear Medicine
• Radiation Therapy
• Cultural awareness
• Indigenous health
• Rural and remote healthcare
• Disaster management
• Limited X-ray Operators (LXO)
• Patient care
