Captivated by Culture calls medical radiation professionals to reflect on, challenge, and actively shape the cultures that define our workplaces, our profession, and our impact on patients and communities.
Set in Melbourne, Australia’s cultural capital, this theme recognises that culture is not accidental. It is created through everyday decisions, behaviours, systems, and leadership. From how we teach and mentor, to how we collaborate across disciplines, conduct research, embrace innovation, and care for one another. Culture directly influences professional identity, quality and safety.
This conference invites us to examine what kind of culture we currently have, what culture we aspire to, and how we each contribute to building it—locally, nationally, and globally.
To ensure the conference continues to showcase the very best in research, innovation, education and professional practice, the Scientific Program Committee has refined the abstract submission process and introduced new presentation formats. These enhancements are designed to create more opportunities for authors to share their work while contributing to a dynamic and engaging conference program.
By expanding the range of presentation options, ASMIRT 2027 will create more opportunities for authors to present their work and encourage broader participation across the medical radiation professions. Further guidance on presentation requirements, including timing, audiovisual support and presentation format, will be provided to authors whose abstracts are accepted.
Captivated by Culture celebrates the people, places and perspectives that shape both Melbourne and the medical radiation profession. Inspired by Melbourne’s vibrant arts, food, sport, laneways and diverse communities, the theme reflects a city where culture is constantly evolving through connection and creativity. It also invites us to explore the culture of our profession. How we learn, lead, collaborate and care, and how these shared experiences influence who we are as practitioners. In 2027, we invite delegates to be captivated by new ideas, diverse voices, meaningful connections and the unique culture of Melbourne.

A full day of workshops will be held on Wednesday 14 April 2027 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Interactive workshops will range from 1.5 hours to half or full day sessions.

ASMIRT 2027 will feature five presentation formats:
Oral Presentation – Our traditional format, providing an opportunity to present comprehensive research studies, major projects and significant innovations.
Mini-Oral Presentation – A new short-format presentation designed to accommodate more presenters while providing a concise, high-impact platform for sharing research and professional initiatives.
Poster Discussion – A new flash-presentation format that enables authors to highlight key findings and engage directly with delegates through focused discussion.
Poster Display – The traditional poster display format, offering an opportunity to showcase research, innovation and professional practice projects.
Case Race – Returning following its popularity at ASMIRT 2026, this fast-paced format provides a dynamic platform for presenting interesting clinical cases and practical lessons learned.
Authors will be required to indicate their preferred presentation format when submitting an abstract, either Oral, Case Race or Poster. Authors who select oral as their preferred presentation type will be considered for oral, mini-oral, poster discussions and posters. Authors who select poster or case race will only be considered for these formats. The new formats have been introduced to better accommodate the increasing number of high-quality and diverse submissions received by ASMIRT each year.
Posters will again be presented as physical posters in 2027 using the design concept as in previous years, allowing delegates to more easily identify the content and outcomes of the work and thus allow for more engagement and efficient learning outcomes. If your abstract is accepted as a poster presentation it must be submitted on one of the poster templates provided. The Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (ASMIRT) will print and display all accepted posters at the conference venue.

We are seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from ASMIRT members interested in becoming abstract reviewers.
Peer review plays a vital role in maintaining the quality, integrity and relevance of the scientific program. Reviewers assess submissions against established criteria and provide valuable feedback to support the Scientific Committee in developing a high-quality conference program.
We encourage clinicians, educators, researchers and academics with an interest in scholarly review and professional advancement to join the ASMIRT 2027 reviewer pool.

Using the email address provided during submission, the submitting author will be notified as to whether their abstract has been accepted. If accepted, authors will also be informed that their presentation will be an Oral presentation, Case Race or Poster presentation. Authors allocated to an oral presentation will be assigned to one of the following presentation sub-types: oral, mini-oral, or poster discussion. Specific dates and times of the Oral presentation will be provided ASAP, once the program is completed.
Submitting authors will be notified late-November 2026 of their acceptance to present at the conference and will be required to commit to attend the conference in person and give their presentation and register by 10 December 2026. If you need to withdraw your abstract, a written statement reflecting the reasons for this decision must be sent to: conferences@asmirt.org
Abstracts will be double blind reviewed by a panel of experts selected by the Scientific Program Committee.
Selection will be based on the abstract review scoring criteria as well as the overall relevance and suitability to the conference program. The decisions of the review process are final and cannot be disputed.
A condition of abstract acceptance is that at least one of the presenting authors must register to attend as a full delegate and pay the appropriate registration fee by Thursday 10 December 2026.
Should one of the presenting authors not register by this time, the presentation may be removed from the program. A co-presenter is permitted on the basis that they have registered for the day of their presentation. Where there is more than one presenter, it is important that the presentation time is strictly adhered to, so enough time is available for questions.
All abstracts accepted for presentation (Oral and Poster) will be published in the official abstract book of the conference. It is envisaged that this will be through a JMRS (Journal of Medical Radiation Sciences) abstract supplement and will be available through the Conference online system. As this is published in JMRS you need to ensure that local and international ethical standards are complied with.
All oral presenters/authors agree to have their presentation recorded and applicable resources available through ASMIRT’s online platforms. This agreement is non-exclusive and royalty-free. Presenters/authors confirm that they have the rights to share the content and acknowledge that ASMIRT is not responsible for the content of the material presented. If any presenters/authors are unable to agree to this, they must contact conferences@asmirt.org with an explanation and request consideration for an exemption. Any approved exemptions will be confirmed in writing.
By submitting an abstract, presenters give permission for their name, bio and image (if uploaded) to be available through the Conference App / online system, and in delegate or sponsor lists.
ASMIRT regards plagiarism as serious professional misconduct. If plagiarism is identified, the abstract and any other abstracts submitted by the same author will be rejected
