CELEBRATE NATIONAL RADIOGRAPHERS AND RADIATION THERAPISTS' WEEK (2 – 8 NOVEMBER 2026)

National Radiographers and Radiation Therapists’ Week (NRRTW) is about celebrating your vital role in health care. It is about taking pride in what we do as Medical Radiation Practitioners and demonstrating to the community, patients and other health professionals our central, and frequently critical place in the health system.

We are continuing the theme Medical Radiation Practitioners – meet the person behind your care. The theme gives us the opportunity to resonate with patients on a personal level.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT FOR NRRTW 2026

National Radiographer and Radiation Therapists’ Week (NRRTW) celebrates medical radiation professionals from Monday 2 November to Sunday 8 November. The week culminates in World Radiography Day, Saturday 8 November, which marks the anniversary of the discovery of the X-ray by German physicist Wilhelm Roentgen in 1895.

After the success of our 2025 campaign, we are continuing with the theme for 2026, Medical Radiation Practitioners - meet the person behind your care.

Over the past two years, participation in the campaign has grown by more than 40 percent. We know that awareness of our professions, what they do, and their vital place in health care continues to be recognised, but we can always do more.

During the course of NRRTW, we will reach out to patients, the public and other health professionals through a comprehensive social media campaign that will include video, interesting stats and great stories. I ask that you not only display the collateral available from the free NRRTW packs, but also get behind the campaign, like and repost our socials, take your own snaps and share the images.
We are all ambassadors for our profession – so embrace the occasion!
Naomi Gibson, ASMIRT President

ABOUT NRRTW

What is National Radiographers and Radiation Therapists' Week?

National Radiographers and Radiation Therapists’ Week (NRRTW) is an initiative by the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (ASMIRT). ASMIRT is the peak body representing medical radiation practitioners in Australia. NRRTW encompasses World Radiography Day on November 8 – initiated by the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists (ISRRT).

What is November 8 World Radiography Day?

On the evening of November 8, 1895, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered the possibility of using electromagnetic radiation to create what we now know as the X-ray. This achievement was awarded with the first Nobel Prize for Physics in 1901. The X-ray is an integral tool for medical professionals.
