CELEBRATE NATIONAL RADIOGRAPHERS AND RADIATION THERAPISTS' WEEK (3 – 9 NOVEMBER 2025)

National Radiographers and Radiation Therapists’ Week (NRRTW) is about celebrating your vital role in health care. It is about taking pride in what we do as Medical Radiation Practitioners and demonstrating to the community, patients and other health professionals our central, and frequently critical place in the health system.

Our theme for the 2025 NRRTW is Medical Radiation Practitioners – meet the person behind your care. The theme gives us the opportunity to resonate with patients on a personal level.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT FOR NRRTW 2025

National Radiographer and Radiation Therapists’ Week (NRRTW) celebrates medical radiation professionals from Monday 3 November to Sunday 9 November. The week culminates in World Radiography Day, Saturday 8 November, which marks the anniversary of the discovery of the X-ray by German physicist Wilhelm Roentgen in 1895.

The 2025 theme for ASMIRT’s NRRTW is Medical Radiation Practitioners - meet the person behind your care

We have chosen this theme as it links closely to our national street poster campaign that will commence on 25 October for two weeks. The campaign vividly and simply demonstrates exactly what Radiation Therapists and Radiographers do, across more than 250 sites in capital cities and available regional centres.

During the course of NRRTW we will reach out to patients, the public and other health professionals, not just through posters, but a comprehensive social media campaign that will include video, vox pops and great stories. I ask that you get behind the campaign, like and repost our socials, and take your own snaps in front of the street poster campaign and share the images.

We are all ambassadors for our profession – so embrace the occasion!

During the week, I encourage you to use the free resources that you can order from this site. We can provide you with materials that reflect the size of your practice or department. You can download digital artwork to use on websites, across newsletters and on social media. We encourage you to tag @asmirtorg in your posts to help spread the word about the significance of medical radiation professionals.

I look forward to seeing your photos, posts and reading your stories during #NRRTW.

Naomi Gibson, ASMIRT President

ABOUT NRRTW

What is National Radiographers and Radiation Therapists' Week?

National Radiographers and Radiation Therapists’ Week (NRRTW) is an initiative by the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (ASMIRT). ASMIRT is the peak body representing medical radiation practitioners in Australia. NRRTW encompasses World Radiography Day on November 8 – initiated by the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists (ISRRT).

What is November 8 World Radiography Day?

On the evening of November 8, 1895, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered the possibility of using electromagnetic radiation to create what we now know as the X-ray. This achievement was awarded with the first Nobel Prize for Physics in 1901. The X-ray is an integral tool for medical professionals.
