A GUIDE TO PROMOTING YOUR PROFESSION

How to…Reach out to your patients

NRRTW is a great opportunity to start a conversation about the profession with patients.

Self-promotion may not come naturally, but it is important for our professions. Unless we are very open about who we are and what services we provide, patients won’t know or understand our role in the health care team.

Add the infographics, NRRTW and PCC posters to your waiting room, they are good conversation starters. Wear the NRRTW stickers and place the balloons somewhere noticeable but safe. Ask if the person you are seeing has any questions about what you do.

To most what you do is a mystery, so even a little insight goes a long way.

How to…Recognise your co-workers

NRRTW is a great week to profile the achievements of staff – take advantage of the opportunity to include staff details in your information displays. This can help to create a meaningful connection between MRPs and their patients. Let people hear about your facility’s expertise and what vital roles your teams play in the health care sector.

How to…Create visual displays

Display NRRTW promotional materials in high-traffic areas in your workplace such as entrances, elevators, cafeteria, lounges and waiting rooms leading up to NRRTW. Set up a station where the public can view any of your workplace’s collateral.  Use the posters, factsheets, stickers provided by ASMIRT to help draw attention.

Make it more personal by including information from your organisation and, if possible, use your staff members on the stand at least during higher traffic times.

How to…Stand out through PCC

Show your patients and the public that you are part of a distinct, highly skilled profession that is focused on person centred care. Take the time with your patients to discuss with them what you are doing medically and to make their experience as physically and culturally comfortable as possible.  Engage the person and their supporters in this conversation and see if you are meeting their requirements. Your dedication to practising PCC will have you stand out.
