Partners in Precision: Co-Designing Medical Radiation Practice Research, Education, Patient Care and Service Delivery with Consumers

Facilitator(s): Caroline Wright, Naveena Nekkalapudi, Amy Hancock

Synopsis: This interactive workshop will explore how consumers can be meaningfully engaged as partners in medical radiation practice across clinical service delivery, education, and research to improve patient care. Through consumer stories, facilitated discussions, practical co-design activities, and small-group collaboration, participants will examine principles of authentic consumer engagement and develop strategies to embed lived experience into decision-making processes.

Attendees will gain practical tools to support co-design initiatives, enhance patient-centred care, strengthen educational programs, and improve research relevance and impact. The workshop will showcase real-world examples and provide opportunities for networking, reflection, and collaborative problem-solving with consumers and professionals.

Learning outcomes:

  • Describe the key principles of consumer engagement and co-design and differentiate co-design from consultation and other forms of consumer involvement.
  • Describe the process involved in engaging and partnering with consumers (who, how, when).
  • Identify opportunities to incorporate consumer perspectives into medical radiation practice.
  • Analyse consumer experience narratives to recognise barriers, enablers, and priorities that influence care experiences and outcomes.
  • Apply a co-design framework to collaboratively develop a consumer-informed solution to a medical radiation practice challenge.
