Convenor’s Welcome

We are delighted to welcome you to Naarm/ Melbourne to become ‘Captivated by Culture’, the 20th edition of the ASMIRT National Conference, taking place from Wednesday 14 to Saturday 17 April 2027.

Set in Australia’s cultural capital, this conference calls medical radiation professionals to reflect on, challenge, and actively shape the cultures that define our workplaces, our profession, and our impact on patients and communities. Culture is not accidental, it is created through our everyday decisions, behaviours, systems, and leadership. We will explore professional identity, education, leadership, research, evidence-based innovation, teamwork and collaboration, and cultures of person-centred care and wellbeing.

ASMIRT 2027 will balance professional dialogue with opportunities to connect and immerse yourself in our beautiful city. The conference will include a welcome function on Thursday evening, then pause with a free Friday night to experience Melbourne’s renowned food, arts, sports and laneway culture, before coming back together to celebrate at the Gala Dinner on Saturday night — a fitting finale to a conference dedicated to shaping a profession we are proud to belong to.

Key areas of focus at ASMIRT 2027 will include:

  • Culture of Leadership & Professional Identity
    • Who we are and how we lead—at every level
  • Culture of Learning & Education
    • How we grow, teach, and support professionals and the next generation
  • Culture of Research, Innovation & Evidence
    • From curiosity to impact
  • Culture of Teamwork & Collaboration
    • Better together
  • Culture of Care & Wellbeing
    • Looking after patients—and ourselves

Captivated by Culture encourages delegates to:

  • Share real-world examples of cultural change—both successes and challenges
  • Reflect on personal and organisational responsibility
  • Explore how Melbourne’s creativity, diversity, and energy mirror the evolution of our profession
  • Leave with ideas, tools, and inspiration to shape positive culture in their own workplaces

We look forward to welcoming you for a memorable, energising, and culturally captivating ASMIRT 2027.
