Every state and territory operates a BreastScreen Australia service, and invites women aged between 50 and 74 years to have a mammogram every 2 years. Screening mammography detects unsuspected cancer at an early stage in order that early treatment will reduce illness and death from breast cancer.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>This population based approach encourages asymptomatic women in the target population to have<\/p>\r\n<p>regular mammograms.
